Western Medical Acupuncture is a modern-day version of a traditional treatment process. WMA uses a different basis for the use of acupuncture, preferring the language of modern medicine instead of the concepts usually associated with Traditional Acupuncture. Medical acupuncture is used primarily for acupuncture analgesia , including musculo-skeletal pain, and post-surgical pain.
One of the main differences between WMA and Traditional acupuncture is the length of training involved. Most practitioners of WMA have had a short 5-day training, as opposed to the 3 year full-time training of almost all Traditional Acupuncture therapists. Choose your practitioner carefully!
